TOP TIPS FOR MODELS

In this age of the internet it appears to me that there are a huge number of girls wanting to be a ‘model’. This posting today is for those of you out there who are thinking about it or just starting out with a few helpful hints and warnings. Sorry it is not in textspeak but I hope it still gets through.

A Commercial Model

I may use some terminology that you don’t understand. Iain Thompson’s Guide will give you a glossary of the terms in general usage in the industry.

1 – IF YOU ARE UNDER 18

You must have your parent’s or guardian’s consent. One of them will have to bring you to the photographic shoots, a consent form will have to be signed by one of them. There are photographers out there who will waive these formalities tempting you to break the rules…..DON’T!

2 – WHERE DO YOU FIT IN?

SUPER MODEL – Earnings of our dreams, High Fashion magazine covers, Catwalk and major fashion shows and ‘A’ list parties
If you are over 5’10 and strangers stop you in the street once a month and say you should be a model or under 5’10 and strangers stop you once a week, then you should consider it. I said strangers not friends.

COMMERCIAL MODEL – Moderate to high earnings, regional magazine ads, editorial and lifestyle tear-sheets, catalogue, regional fashion shows and ‘B’ list parties. No height restrictions.

If you are dedicated and willing to work hard, have an outgoing personality, have a range of expressions and are willing to listen to direction and follow it, you might consider this. Dancing and acting abilities are also considered great assets for this class of model. Nudity is not generally required.

GLAMOUR MODEL – Moderate to high earnings. I have stolen this directly from Purestorm as I do not really shoot glamour.

By modern definitions, the word glamour means: “alluring beauty or charm (often with sex-appeal)”. In photographic or modelling terms, “glamour”, concentrates on a model’s appearance and presentation rather than the clothes she may or may not be wearing. It is about creating sexually provocative images, with the model often appearing to be in a constant state of near-orgasm! It is about the attitude, the eroticism, the mood, and sometimes nothing more than a particular look in a model’s eyes.

If you have what is considered a good body and are comfortable with it you may consider this. Nudity is expected.

INTERNET MODEL – Moderate earnings to free prints or cd’s of edited images of a shoot.
Anyone can consider this but you should be aware that the top earners in this field are generally willing to pose up to art nude and have the same attributes as a commercial model.

PORNOGRAPHY – Moderate to high earnings, top shelf and under the shelf magazines
If you are willing to share images of close ups of your most intimate parts with your friends and family and especially with your children, grandchildren and all their friends as you get older, you might consider this.

This s the first in a series of blogs, in the next post I will be giving tips on how you can start on your journey.

DO NOT BE TEMPTED BY AN AGENCY THAT CONTACTS YOU ON THE PHONE OR THROUGH THE INTERNET AND SAYS THAT YOU HAVE POTENTIAL, OFFERS YOU AN APPOINTMENT AND THEN ASKS FOR A DEPOSIT OF ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY. IT WILL GENERALLY COST YOU A LOT MORE.

BE AWARE THAT THE RIGHTS TO ANY PHOTOGRAPH BELONG TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER UNLESS HE HAS SOLD THEM TO A BUYER. YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY WHERE THOSE IMAGES MAY APPEAR AND WHEN THEY APPEAR ON THE INTERNET THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR MANY GENERATIONS.
